History
The co-operative was established in the Murray River town of Cobram in
1950 when 14 dairy farmers pooled their resources to form the Murray Valley
Co-operative Dairy Products and Trading Company Ltd. The name Murray Goulburn
Co-operative Company was introduced in 1960 to greater reflect the co-operative's
area of operation following mergers with factories at Kyabram, Berrigan and Rochester.
The year 1972 was also significant as the co-operative's association with the
DEVONDALE brand name was establish with the purchase of the cream division of
DEVONDALE Cream Company. Today there are more than 3000 dairy farmer suppliers
situated in all corners of Victoria and parts of the Southern Riverina in New
South Wales. The company now has six factories in Victoria along with 26 trading
stores, serving the rural community throughout Victoria and NSW. The trading
stores provide farmers with essential farming requisites such as animal health
care products, machine parts, fertiliser and pasture stock.
